Business Process Improvement – A Focused Solution to Optimize Technology

Abstract
A company purchased and implemented a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) with two major goals: improve data integrity, and increase scalability through improved productivity and efficiency. The implementation team performed the analysis, configured the system, tested the functionality and data, trained the users, and went live with the new system. Despite the significant investment in technology, managers and end users continued to experience many of the problems and issues that were the impetus for original decision to invest in time, resources, and capital. End users of the system eventually reverted to using their original “home grown” tools and solutions to manage data, rather than use what they perceived as data from an unreliable source. The company also purchased a number of stand-alone applications in an attempt to meet the company’s goals. The result was manual data entry in multiple systems, which continued to increase errors and affect the data integrity. The general perception was that the new system made more work for everyone and employees could not trust the data from the new system. Employees became frustrated and began to focus on their co-workers as the cause of the problems.

This is an all-too-common scenario that Astra HR consultants have seen play out in a number of mid-size and large organizations. This paper will provide you with an understanding of these types of problems that companies face during and after a system implementation. It will also offer a solution to help your organization effectively leverage your existing or new technology.
